The following guidelines are based on many years of essence
use. You will modify them as needed for your own work according
to your experience and intuition.
How to Take the Essences
Canadian Forest Tree Essences are usually taken orally, 5
to 7 drops at a time, either directly in the mouth from the
dropper or added to juice or liquid (Other than coffee, which
is a potential antidote to many vibrational products, the essences
can be added to any drink. A healthy juice or spring water are
best)
How Often Should Essences Be Taken?
We have covered the normal or regular use of each essence
in the Individual Essence Description under the heading of “HOW
TO USE THIS ESSENCE.”
The following are general guidelines:
1. In a crisis or urgent situation
Take the essences every 5 to 15 minutes until improvement
is shown, then space out the doses to every half hour
and then every hour until equilibrium is restored.
The following essences are especially helpful to use in a
crisis or urgent situation:

Happy Helping Potion – Feeling abandoned, fear of
separation, lost
Earth
Changes – Worry or panic over natural events, natural
upheavals
Forest
Secrets – Jolted, by food poisoning, sunstroke, and
shocks, over stimulated, distracted, jet lag and travel disorientation

the Heart – intense feelings of heartbreak
Life
Embrace – Depression, hopelessness, giving up
Millenium
Journey – Stress and anxiety, feeling pressured and
overwhelmed, panicky
Therapist
& Healer – Feeling invaded, attached, vulnerable,
needing protection and clearing
Universal
Healing Essence – Healing crises, feeling invaded,
vulnerable to illness
2. In acute situations
The essences may be taken every hour – or more
frequently if needed – until equilibrium is restored.
3. For chronic and ingrained patterns and behaviors
Take the essences 5 to 7 times per day.
4. For maintenance and progressive long term use
Take the essences 1 to 4 times per day.
Key Moments to Take the Essences
Essences may be taken at any time; however, it is worth noting
that sunrise, sunset, after bathing, upon
waking and at bedtime may be particularly auspicious
moments. This is because in moments when we are shifting gears,
we are particularly open and receptive. What we do at
bedtime, for example, colors the whole of the night, and what
we do upon waking colors the whole of the day.
How Long Should Someone Take the Essences?
The following are general guidelines:
1. Acute, short term issues
Use an essence from as little as 1 day to 1 month
2. Chronic and ingrained patterns and behaviors or with
core personal issues
a. One approach is to use the selected essences steadily
for 1 month to 5 months (or even longer).
Do not be too quick to change the essence being used.
The resonance of an essence needs time and steady use to penetrate
and act within the deepest levels of the energy field to produce
deeper shifts and longer lasting results. Used for longer periods
such as 1 to 5 months, they support profound, life-enhancing
changes, expansion of inner qualities we value in ourselves
and our ability to tap into deeper inner resources.
b. Another approach is to use a series of well chosen
essences. This approach is like peeling an onion, moving
progressively towards a core issue.
3. Maintenance Program
Use an essence regularly 1 or more times per day.
What If a Person Experiences Strong Emotions Arising or Feels
Stuck While Taking the Essences?
Essences often bring to consciousness an awareness of our
patterns and habits. Uncomfortable feelings may be stirred
up; even physical discomfort such as migraines that have a strong
emotional and energetic component may be present for a time.
Some people may want to stop the essence at this point. However,
some discomfort is at times to be expected as part of the
healing process and is often a sign that the essences are
working.
Here are some guidelines:
1. Continuing to use the essence will often produce
beneficial results with resolution and release from the discomfort.
It may even be beneficial to increase the number of times the
essences are taken.
2. Often adding a second single or combination essence
that covers another element of the issues the person is dealing
with will move the healing process forward.
3. At times it may be best to stop the essences for a few
days in order to give the body/mind time to absorb the effects
of the essences, then to reintroduce it slowly. A variation
of this is to taper down the frequency of its use, which
will allow its effects to be more easily absorbed.
4. If you feel the essences are too strong for the
time being, switch to other essences that are unlikely
to bring up issues a person is not yet ready to confront.
Note: If a person is in a crisis or going through a
very difficult stage, we generally recommend they wait until
they are calmer, more reflective and centred before taking
an essence that tends to touch deeper core personal issues.

How Long Does It Take Before a Person Notices Results?
Over time, people who work with and use the essences are able
to more clearly discern their action in themselves and others.
Generally, in the first few weeks of taking an essence
some beneficial effects will be noticed. Some people even experience
immediate, almost instantaneous results.
Each Person is Different
However, how a person experiences an essence varies from
individual to individual and depends on factors such as
the issue they are working on, the depth and time an issue has
been part of their life, how they perceive the world and what
they take note of, their sensitivity, their prior healing work
and so forth.
Signs of an Essence in Action:
Most likely signs of an essence in action are: increased
awareness of the issue, a sense of being energetically or
emotionally nourished or a feeling of release and
resolution. When we are ready, an essence may trigger some
very obvious and powerful shifts in our perception and
in our sense of wellness.
What Is Happening If There Appears to Be No Results with the
Essences?
The essences do not lend themselves easily to analysis, as
the lines of cause and effect between their action and positive
changes in underlying emotional and energetic conditions are
difficult to trace.
This may well be because essences do not work directly, chemically,
as say does an aspirin to rid one self of a headache. Rather,
they work indirectly through their resonance, interacting
organically with the human and animal energy fields, their effects
rippling like waves in many directions.
Noticing the effects of the tree essences therefore involves
intuitive, subjective and non-linear modes of perception.
It is perhaps because of the non-linear action of the essences
that many people who experience beneficial results while taking
essences tend to attribute these improvements to other factors
such as lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, and so forth. Sometimes
such a person might say:
“I don’t know if it is the essences, but I feel
better…
..I lost weight
..I’ve fewer migraines this month
..I sleep better…”
Be Patient...
There may be times when results take longer to manifest when
taking an essence. Metaphorically, this is like the planting
of a seed of a tree and waiting to see it grow. Sometimes
it takes a while for the seed to sprout and to push through
the soil. Until then we may wonder what, if anything, is happening.
This is one of the reasons that when an essence is well chosen
it may be beneficial to take it for a prolonged period of time.
Be Sure to Keep an Open Mind
A note here is appropriate about the role of openness towards
using essences: If someone is not open to the essences they
simply may not be able to perceive results. Shifts will be attributed
to other things. Even when we are open, shifts in our health
and approach to life may remain unrecognized.
Finally, when we don’t appear to get results, it may
be that other things are happening for the person beyond our
sight or knowledge. We can support or facilitate wellness using
a holistic approach, of which essences are a part, but remembering
that ultimately each individual is responsible for their healing.
Should Canadian Forest Tree Essences Be Mixed with Other Vibrational
Products?
When you wish to use our tree essences with another vibrational
essence or “potentized” homeopathic preparation,
we suggest keeping them in separate bottles, unmixed,
and if possible, take them at different times.
Use the Essences at Full Strength
Our essences come as ready-to-take dosage preparations;
they are already in the optimum form for consumption. In order
to maintain optimum quality, we specifically ask therapists
and healers, including homeopaths, not to dilute our
essences further.
Using the Essences Externally
Tree essences may be used with benefit in sprays or misting
bottles, in baths, massage blends, soaps, creams and so forth.
In containers of up to 1 litre or 1 quart, add 11 drops and
then tap the container 10 to 20 times against the palm of your
hand. In larger containers, add 22 drops.
In a bath we suggest adding 22 drops directly to the water,
then stirring it with your hands.
You may also put a few drops of essences in your hands and
massage around the neck and head.
